Week 10: A Major Shift: From Pica to n8n
May 30, 2025

Until now, our AI agents relied on Pica to connect with tools like Gmail, Stripe, Google Docs, and Meta Ads. But we kept hitting walls: opaque reasoning, black-box errors, and a frustrating lack of visibility into how tasks were executed. Debugging was painful, and scalability felt out of reach.
So, we changed course.
n8n is now the backbone of Entonomy. Here’s how it works:
A CEO Agent takes in business plans and goals, breaks them down, and distributes tasks to specialized sub-agents—each powered by its own n8n workflow.
These workflows are modular, inspectable, and reusable. We can see the logic, adjust it as needed, and know exactly how data flows between agents.
We’re building icons and schemas to visually map agent logic, and a lightweight interface is coming to make it easy for users to trigger workflows, review outputs, and set new goals.
This isn’t just an upgrade—it’s a re-architecture that makes Entonomy’s system more transparent, reliable, and scalable.
🧭 Key Learnings This Week
n8n > Black Box: A structured workflow engine beats opaque AI-native tools when it comes to flexibility and debugging.
Boundaries Matter: Self-generating assistants need clear limits and human checkpoints to avoid errors and hallucinations.
Visual Trees Work: Mapping workflows visually makes it easier to assign responsibilities and understand system behavior.
Start Manual, Iterate Fast: Don’t over-automate too soon. Test manually, refine, then scale.
🚀 What’s Next
Next week’s goals will be defined in Monday’s planning session. But we’re already thinking about:
Finalizing the end-to-end pipeline: from business goals to report outputs.
Standardizing sub-agent templates.
Adding persistent memory for better agent state tracking.
Building a CLI or UI interface for users to interact with the system.
Why This Matters
This architecture shift is a foundational moment for Entonomy. It brings us one step closer to our vision of a transparent, scalable, AI-powered system that can truly automate business tasks with precision and reliability. It also shows that we’re willing to learn, pivot, and make the tough calls in service of that vision.
We’re excited about what’s next—and grateful to everyone following along as we build Entonomy in public.
